WWE Reportedly Declined Mo’s Plea For Help

The pro wrestling world is currently mourning the passing of Bobby Horne, who famously wrestled as Mo in Men On A Mission, at the age of just 58. And now, in disappointing news, Dave Meltzer has revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Horne reached out to WWE for help paying for a kidney transplant, but was declined, seemingly because the company did not want to set a precedent.

He was bitter at WWE. He needed $30,000 down to get the transplant. He went to WWE and said: ‘You send me a letter every year that says you’ll pay for rehab. I don’t have a drug problem. I need a kidney. It’ll cost you a lot less than rehab. WWE’s policy is only to pay for drug rehab. That’s it. Not cancer treatment. Not organ transplants. And a lot of other guys got turned down, too. Steve Williams with cancer, others. So Mo was told no.Dave Meltzer

Horne kicked off his wrestling career in 1991, and along with Nelson Frazier, later known as Mabel and then Viscera, he joined WWE in 1993 as Men on a Mission, managed by Oscar. Their larger-than-life presence and rapping persona helped them become prominent members of the roster, and together they captured tag team gold. And while this was a career highlight for Horne, his tag partner, would achieve greater success, winning WWE’s annual King of the Ring tournament.
