In news that disappointed Ring of Honor’s fanbase, Leyla Hirsch became a free agent earlier this year because her contract wasn’t renewed. Precisely why AEW management didn’t offer the Russian a new deal isn’t known, although her departure wasn’t a total surprise, as she hadn’t wrestled for either of Tony Khan’s promotions since last December’s Final Battle show. However, despite this career setback, it has now been reported by Fightful Select that Hirsch is on WWE’s radar as a referee.

“Sources within WWE tell Fightful that they reached out to Leyla Hirch about a potential tryout with the company as a referee. We’re told that some in WWE had heard bout the communication in mid-June, but we haven’t learned if it was accepted or if the tryout has already happened.”Fightful Select

28-year-old Hirsch initially broke into the business via CZW in 2017 and, after three years, was wrestling enhancement matches for AEW, putting over Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb. This would subsequently lead to her signing a full-time contract in 2021, although her goal of becoming a featured performer was seriously derailed when she suffered a torn ACL and was sidelined for over a year. Still, she would make a remarkable recovery and, in 2023, joined the ROH roster, where she built up a winning streak until losing to Athena in a match for the ROH Women’s Championship.
