Throughout the 90s, persistent rumors circulated that Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were secret lovers, fueled by the fact that Michaels seemed unable to do wrong in McMahon’s eyes. And now, during an interview with the Johnny I Pro Show, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, who lived through this period and knows both men well, has claimed he is “sure” the pair were lovers, stating that Michaels was so envious of his position that he believes he slept with McMahon to get it.
It should be noted that there is no concrete evidence that McMahon and Michaels were ever more than boss and employee, and this type of locker-room gossip has gone on for decades. In fact, when asked about this, Jim Ross, who at one time was McMahon’s right-hand man, dismissed it as unfounded jealousy, attributing the favoritism Michaels received to McMahon seeing his defiant self in the wrestler, saying they had a father-son dynamic. Still, the rumor will likely never go away, with the sleazier side of the wrestling business often being just as fascinating as the action in the ring.
