WWE Allows Chelsea Green Out Of Her Non-Compete Early To Make ROH Debut

Chelsea Green was one of the ten wrestlers cut by WWE On April 15 despite her having signed a new three-year contract just five months previously. There had been strong rumors she would return to Impact Wrestling, with their Slammiversary pay-per-view scheduled for July 17. However, instead, she has made her debut for Ring of Honor during their Best in the World event.

The “Hot Mess” would be introduced by Maria Kanellis as a participant in the promotions upcoming Women’s Championship tournament. She was wearing a cast on her arm and revealed that the Maryland Athletic Commission deemed her unfit to compete until next month due to her broken arm. Although she’d then say that she would show everyone what she can do in the ring and that she is unstoppable. You can watch this for yourself below.

In order to appear for ROH, Green had to get permission from WWE to end her non-compete early, which they clearly agreed to. Green is replacing Vita VonStarr in the tournament and will face Mandy Leon in her first match. Also competing in the tournament are Allysin Kay, Angelina Love, Max The Impaler, Holidead, Marti Belle, Sumie Saka, Rok-C, Mazzerati, Alex Gracia, Miranda Alize, Nicole Savo, Willow Nightingale, and Trish Adora.

The need for the tournament is because ROH’s former women’s champion Kelly Klein departed the promotion in 2019. It was claimed at the time she’d been released, but ROH technically just allowed her contract to expire. This was despite having previously made her an offer to stay.

Klein has since filed a lawsuit against ROH’s parent company, their COO Joe Koff, General Manager Greg Gilliland, Booker Hunter Johnston, and Jay Lethal as defendants. She is seeking $75,000, and her complaints include breach of an implied contract, violation of state and federal equal pay acts, abusive discharge, unpaid royalties, discrimination, harassment, and an unsafe working environment.
