As part of The Opps, Samoa Joe successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championship against the Death Riders and Gabe Kidd at All In: Texas. However, after the match, Samoa Joe ended up on the receiving end of a beating and had to be stretchered away. At the time, this was unanticipated, and fans feared that the former AEW Champion was dealing with a legitimate injury and needed time off.
However, in positive news, Fightful Select has now confirmed that Joe’s absence from AEW television is simply due to him needing time off to promote the upcoming season of the Peacock series “Twisted Metal,” which is scheduled to be released on July 31.
46-year-old Joe broke into the business in 1999 and since then has been prominently featured in ROH, TNA, WWE, and now AEW. Still, it does appear he is wisely preparing for life after wrestling, having previously done voiceover work for video games before landing the Sweet Tooth role in “Twisted Metal.” And while it isn’t confirmed that acting is his future, based on feedback from fans of the Peacock series, it appears it is a viable option.
