When it was announced Chris Jericho had a match for this week’s episode of Dynamite, many assumed it was something planned to give him a win after he dropped the ROH Championship to Claudio Castagnoli. However, that wasn’t the case, as Jericho would put over unknown youngster Action Andretti in a match reminiscent of Razor Ramon and the 1-2-3 Kid in the 90s. And now it’s been reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Jericho handpicked Andretti as someone he wanted to put over and “make him a star” after seeing him wrestle QT Marshall on Dark.
Andretti had a match on one of the streaming shows against QT Marshall, and Chris Jericho was watching the match, and decided at that moment, “this guy’s gonna be a star.” And so he decided that he was going to make him a star. This was ways back, he had all this stuff to do, the Claudio feud, these other matches.
Following his victory over Jericho, Tony Khan would make the announcement Andretti was officially All Elite; however, according to Fight Select, Andretti has been under contract with AEW since October, further adding credence to the claim this wasn’t an overnight decision. And with the youngster only beginning his career in 2019, it’s remarkable to think he has already reached AEW. That said, he isn’t an overnight sensation, as he has put the work in, having been a regular for CZW and also working for GCW on occasion.
