Wade Barrett Turned Down WWE’s WrestleMania Proposal

Wade Barrett Turned Down WWE’s WrestleMania Proposal

During an interview with WrestlingINC Stu Bennett, known better to WWE fans as Wade Barrett revealed WWE reached out to him about a Nexus reunion at WrestleMania before COVID-19 caused plans to change.

I was called in January or February by the Talent Relations team in WWE about something they wanted to do during WrestleMania to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Nexus. I actually turned it down as I didn’t like the offer or the plan. I saw Darren just after that, and he said he was gonna go and do something with them. But I wasn’t going to be involved in whatever it was.

In all honestly, if it had been something more significant, I would have paid it more attention. But it was something, to me, that I wasn’t interested in doing. There was no benefit at all, for me, in doing it, and I wasn’t excited about it, so I turned the offer down.Wade Barrett

It isn’t known what the return would have entailed, but it’s possible it was just an Axxess appearance, which is WWE’s yearly four-day fan convention coinciding with WrestleMania. It does sound though if WWE had wanted to make it a television angle, he would have been involved.

Wade Barret hasn’t wrestled since 2016, preferring to commentate and perform as an authority figure for various promotions. He was burnt out from his time on the road and discouraged that WWE wasn’t interested in his ideas. He dd look set to return to the ring and wrestle in Lucha Underground as “The Lord” in 2018, but the promotion went on hiatus and now seems dead.
