UPDATE: Wade Barrett has acknowledged this story on X, and revealed his absence is due to having booked some time off at the start of the year. He confirmed that he will be back in a couple of weeks.

During Friday night’s episode of SmackDown, Wade Barrett was noticeably absent from commentary, with Cory Graves having taken his spot alongside Michael Cole behind the announce desk. And now, in unexpected news, PWInsider.com has reported the British former wrestler is no longer considered part of WWE’s commentary rotation.

Precisely why this decision has been made is unclear. However, it comes just days after Nikki Bella made it known on her podcast that she was upset, with Barrett saying she was trying “to recapture former glory,” and “desperate to prove she still has it against this new generation,” during the Clash in Paris pre-show.

After Bella’s frustration became known, Barrett took to X and expressed his own disappointment that the issue was made public, rather than addressed directly with him. Still, it did seem like it was no longer considered a big deal after Barrett posted a follow-up tweet saying “we’ve smoothed things over, and I’ve graciously been allowed back into the Bella Army.” Therefore, if this situation is why Barrett has lost his spot, it certainly feels harsh, considering the talents appear to have moved on.
