In the eyes of many fans, CM Punk was perceived as having sold out his principles when he returned to WWE in 2023, having spent nearly a decade denouncing the company. However, while many fans would accept this due to how much time had passed, even his most prominent supporters raised their eyebrows when he publicly apologized on Friday for his “blood money-covered d*ck in Saudi Arabia” tweet, having seemingly completely abandoned his punk rock ideologies to wrestle at Night of Champions.
Still, while many fans of the self-proclaimed “Voice of the Voiceless” are coming to terms with this situation, it appears not everyone is disillusioned with him. This is because Triple H has stated during the post-Night of Champions press conference that he is “incredibly proud” of Punk for apologizing, adding that he was “privileged” to see Punk grow as a person.
WWE began running house shows in Saudi Arabia back in 2014 and subsequently signed a mega-money deal to hold annual premium live events there. Still, a significant number of WWE’s critics have voiced concern over the company’s willingness to work with a country that doesn’t permit LGBT equality, has committed human rights abuses, and suppresses women, which are all things followers of the punk subculture are against. However, with WWE hosting increasingly larger events in the country, including next year’s Royal Rumble, it appears that Punk is now prioritizing his career.
