Multiple MMA fighters have been involved in legal action against the UFC for many years, claiming that they had lost wages after the promotion purchased many of its rivals and thus controlled how much fighters were paid. Over time, around 1,200 fighters would join the antitrust lawsuit, which requested a $1.6 billion payout, which would have been a massive blow to TKO, the parent company of both UFC and WWE.
However, a SEG filing has now confirmed that the case was settled out of court earlier this month, with TKO agreeing to pay $335 million in installments. Additionally, it was noted that the settlement costs would also be tax deductible.
It has previously been speculated that had this lawsuit gone to trial and went against the UFC in court, the door would have been open for pro wrestlers to file a similar one against WWE. Yet that now appears uncertain, and the share price of TKO has increased by almost 7% as of writing, indicating the market sees this payout as a long-term positive for the company.
