The Reason WWE Allowed Cody Rhodes To Wrestle With Torn Pec Revealed

Depending on your viewpoint, Cody Rhodes either bravely or foolishly wrestled Seth Rollins at last weekend’s Hell In A Cell event despite having a torn pec. The former AEW star would later reveal it was his own decision, and WWE never pressured him into wrestling despite his match being highly anticipated. Some, though, have questioned how WWE doctors could allow someone in such a condition to compete, and now Fightful Select has revealed the explanation. With the reason being that because the pectoral was entirely torn off the bone, WWE’s doctors believed further damage was unlikely.

Rhodes has since undergone surgery, and Fightful Select has also reported that WWE filmed interviews and material for a future documentary about his injury and recovery. When this will air isn’t known, but WWE stated on Friday night’s SmackDown that he would be out for nine months which would have him return just in time for WrestleMania 39. However, it’s possible WWE purposely picked this timeframe to avoid making a Royal Rumble match return so obvious. As oddsmakers have already made him the favorite to win, with the typical recovery time for this type of injury being between four to six months.
