Despite making her NXT debut last week, former AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May wasn’t named during the episode, instead, she was just referred to as “glamorous.” Therefore, many fans were speculating on what she would be known as going forward, with the name “Blake Monroe” revealed this week during a Sabrina Carpenter-inspired vignette.
And while the British wrestler has yet to publicly explain the meaning behind the fresh name, it has been noted on social media that “Blake” is her niece’s name, while “Monroe” is almost certainly based on the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
The fact that WWE wanted to rename May surprised some, given her star status in AEW. Still, it’s known that WWE prefers to own the names of its talents to prevent them from using them elsewhere. However, more recently, the policy has become more flexible, as Ethan Page and Jade Cargill kept the names they used in AEW, while Ricky Starks was renamed Ricky Saints and Brian Pillman Jr. became Lexis King.
