Colt Cabana signed with AEW in February 2020 and went on to become a member of The Dark Order. Yet, he has been noticeably absent from television recently, despite remaining listed on the promotions roster page. It was known he had been to Australia to film scenes in Young Rock where he portrayed The Brooklyn Brawler; nevertheless, that wouldn’t account for all his time away.
Now in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has provided more information confirming that Cabana is still with the company and actually signed a new contract due to support from The Young Bucks, but his future isn’t in AEW, but Tony Khan’s version of ROH. It was also speculated that CM Punk’s AEW signing may have played a part in how this has played out.
For those unaware, Cabana and Punk were very close longtime friends. However, things went sour when WWE sued them over comments relating to WWE doctor Christopher Amann during the infamous podcast hosted by Cabana in which Punk discussed his WWE departure. The belief is Punk agreed to cover Cabana’s legal costs, but along the way, they fell out, and Cabana sued Punk when he rescinded that offer. Punk would counter sue, and eventually, both lawsuits were settled with it reported that neither paid any financial settlement.
