Last week, it was announced that Taz would be inducted into the 2300 Arena Hardcore Hall of Fame, with AEW currently running shows there. Initially, it was going to take place at last Saturday’s Collision taping, but Taz would ask for the induction to be postponed until Dynamite so he could have family and friends attend.
And while the induction finally took place on Wednesday, many fans were disappointed that it didn’t air on television and took to social media to voice their complaints. However, Taz would subsequently directly address this on X, revealing that he had requested his induction not take television time away from any current talents.
While best known nowadays for being a commentator, 57-year-old Taz was a pro wrestler between 1987 and 2002. Still, despite being incredibly popular as an in-ring performer, especially during his time in ECW, he opted to focus on commentary, first with WWE and then TNA, due to the wear and tear on his body catching up to him. At the time, this came as a big shock, as Taz was never known for his mic work, although he proved to be a natural behind the announcer’s desk and had even hosted a nationally syndicated morning radio show at one point.
