Vince McMahon’s WWE departure opened the door for Jesse Ventura to return to the company via a Legends Contract, plus work as an occasional commentator. However, having not been prominently used since an episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event in May, it has now been reported via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the decision was made not to renew his broadcasting contract.
Precisely why the WWE Hall of Famer is no longer wanted has not been officially confirmed by anyone at WWE. Still, it’s speculated that those in power were unhappy with his comments on commentary regarding Damian Priest taking the easy option and escaping through the cage door during his victory over Drew McIntyre.
74-year-old Ventura broke into the business in 1975 after spending six years in the Navy and would notably work for Central States Wrestling, Pacific Northwest Wrestling, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Yet, his time in WWE saw him elevated to a new level, as he shared the ring with legendary names, including Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, The Junkyard Dog, and Hulk Hogan, which ultimately led to him becoming one of the most popular heel color commentators in history.
