On Thursday, New Japan officially announced on its website that Kazuchika Okada wasn’t renewing his contract when it expires on January 31. However, it was noted he would be wrestling some matches for them in February. And while his departure has been expected for some time, fans are now speculating that he is AEW-bound after Tony Khan had earlier in the day taken to social media platform X to say, “It’s going to be an amazing 2024 @AEW!“
Most experts consider 36-year-old Okada to be one of the greatest Japanese pro wrestlers of all time. However, in the US, his fame is limited due to him only working a few matches in the country in recent history, in addition to a forgettable run with TNA over a decade ago under the name Okato. Still, it now appears that is about to change, with AEW looking like the favorite to secure his signature, given the fact he has previously competed for them.
