Shawn Spears AEW Future Again In Doubt Following Tweet

Just two months ago, there was speculation that Shawn Spears was set to be the next wrestler departing AEW after he posted a “Goodbye” gif on Twitter. And when you added the fact the 41-year-old hadn’t wrestled since May, it seemed plausible. Nonetheless, he actually returned to AEW the following week on Dynamite and competed on the next Rampage tapings, reveling after the match he had been on hiatus due to the death of his mother.

Now though, after just that match, he has disappeared from fans’ screens again, and when asked about this on Twitter, he has again cast doubt on his future by saying, “Don’t hold your breath… Not going there anytime soon.” It should, though, be noted that Spears is going o be father shortly, and this could have been a somewhat harsh way to say he is on paternity leave.

Spears was one of AEW’s first signings, having been granted his WWE release in 2019. Seemingly knowing ahead of time there would be a spot for him in the newly launched company due to his friendship with Cody Rhodes. And while he did have a memorable feud with Rhodes, as AEW’s roster grew, he would fall down the ladder despite being part of The Pinnacle, which saw him wrestle in the first Blood And Guts and the second Stadium Stampede. Yet he was over in NXT, so there may still be time to recapture that magic, be it in AEW or elsewhere.
