Second-Generation Luchador Is Expected To Depart WWE Soon

Santos Escobar hasn’t wrestled for WWE since July, leading many to suspect that the Legado Del Fantasma member is dealing with an injury. However, after he recently took to social media to post an hourglass emoji, speculation commenced that he was either nearing a return to the ring or was set to depart the company. And now, suggesting it is the latter, Fightful Select has reported his contract is set to expire, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be re-signing.

“WWE sources confirmed to Fightful Select this morning that Santos Escobar’s contract is up “very soon,” and it hasn’t looked like he’ll be staying with the company as of now. It was implied the two sides had discussed an extension, but we’ve not confirmed as much.”Fightful Select

The 41-year-old luchador, previously known as El Hijo del Fantasma, comes from a wrestling family, with his father being El Fantasma and his uncle Ángel de la Muerte. This background led him to wrestling while still a teenager in Mexico, and from there, he went on to work for CMLL, AAA, Lucha Underground, and Impact Wrestling. Therefore, when he signed with WWE in 2019, big things were expected. Yet, despite unmasking and eventually working with Rey Mysterio, in the eyes of many, WWE squandered his potential, making his upcoming departure unsurprising.
