Santos Escobar Acknowledges His WWE Departure On Social Media With Just One Word

On Monday, news broke that Santos Escobar looked set to leave WWE, having not signed a new contract. According to reports, he was offered a new deal that would have paid him more money, but he still opted to depart, having not wrestled since July. And now the second-generation luchador has taken to X to share a short video accompanied by the word “Palante.” This, for those unaware, means “onward” in Spanish, and culturally is seen as being determined to keep moving forward and never give up.

41-year-old Escobar, who previously wrestled under a mask as El Hijo del Fantasma, hails from a wrestling family, with his father being El Fantasma and his uncle Ángel de la Muerte. This proud lucha libre heritage prompted him to pursue wrestling as a teenager in Mexico, leading to his work with CMLL, AAA, Lucha Underground, and Impact Wrestling. Consequently, when he joined WWE in 2019, there were high expectations for his career. However, despite unmasking and thus proving he was embracing his opportunity, he was never given a prolonged push.
