Last month, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist/singer Geddy Lee reunited on stage to perform “Closer To The Heart” as part of “South Park: The 25th Anniversary Concert.” Two shows took place at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver marking a celebration of the music of the long-running animated hit, “South Park.” The concerts aired on Comedy Central and are currently streaming on Paramount+.

On Saturday, the Foo Fighters hosted the first of two tribute shows to their late drummer, Taylor Hawkins at Wembley Stadium in London. The star-studded affair featured Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and AC/DC’s Brian Johnson joining the Foo Fighters on stage to perform AC/DC classics “Back In Black” and “Let There Be Rock.” The show also featured performances by Paul McCartney, Travis Barker, Them Crooked Vultures, The James Gang, Wolfgang Van Halen, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, Justin Hawkins, Chrissie Hynde and many more. Lifeson and Lee also reunited again for the second time in as many months performing the opening overture from the “2112” album, “Working Man” and “YYZ.”

“Now if there’s one band that I always associated Taylor Hawkins with, it’s these next two guys,” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told the Wembley Stadium audience. “Taylor got up and played with these two guys once in their hometown of Toronto, Canada. And I have to say, it was not only one of the greatest nights of my life, watching him do that, but perhaps one of the greatest nights of his. So would you please welcome to the stage, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush!”

Lee addressed the crowd saying: “For Alex and I, it’s a privilege to be up here to play with Super Dave, and Greg. In 2008, as Dave told you, we got a call from Foos’ management, asking if we’d come to the Toronto show and show up so that Taylor could play one of his favorite Rush songs with us. We obliged and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. So tonight, in honor of that — and in honor of our own lost brother,” Lee added with a pause, acknowledging the absence of late Rush drummer Neil Peart, “we’d like to play that song.”

Grohl and his bandmates stood together at the start of the show, and the singer addressed the crowd saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we’ve gathered here to celebrate the life, the music and the love of our dear friend, our bandmate, our brother Taylor Hawkins. For those of you who knew him personally, you know that no one else could make you smile or laugh or dance or sing like he could. And for those of you admired him from afar, I’m sure you’ve all felt the same thing. So, tonight we’ve gathered with family and his closest friends, his musical heroes and greatest inspirations to bring you a gigantic f*cking night for a gigantic f*cking person. So, sing and dance and laugh and cry and f*cking scream and make some f*cking noise so he can hear us right now. ‘Cause you know what? It’s gonna be a loooong f*cking night, right?”
