Ric Flair Discloses What Really Killed Hulk Hogan In Shocking Podcast Reveal

Despite it being rumored for several weeks that Hulk Hogan was in poor health, the wrestling world was still shocked when TMZ announced he had passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 71. Subsequently, it would be reported that his official cause of death was a heart attack, with medical records noting he had been battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia and atrial fibrillation.

However, in a new interview with the Double3 Coverage Podcast, Hogan’s real-life close friend and long-time in-ring rival Ric Flair has claimed Hogan died due to “street drugs.” According to Flair, Hogan was having to source his own medication after doctors cut him off, and this is what really killed him.

“I talked to him the day before he died. I shouldn’t say this, but what killed him was street drugs … When the doctor wouldn’t prescribe anymore, he was in so much pain. Then he had a neck surgery and got infected. So back in the hospital. Imagine 10 back surgeries, two knees, two hips, all this. And then when the doctor would not prescribe any more pain medicine, they just couldn’t do it, all due to conscience, right? Yeah. So they went and got the drugs off the street. His body just said, ‘You know what? Bingo. I can’t do it anymore.'”Ric Flair

While they were two of the biggest wrestling stars of the ’80s, Hogan and Flair wouldn’t share a ring until 1991 when the Nature Boy jumped to WWE. Initially, it was believed the duo would headline WrestleMania 8 against each other, given it was a dream match to many. Yet, after the match failed to draw on the house show circuit, Vince McMahon decided to go in a different direction. Still, Hogan and Flair would go on to have several high-profile matches a few years later in WCW, with their Bash At The Beach bout in 1994 arguably being the biggest encounter.
