As soon as WWE agreed to purchase AAA, speculation commenced online that Alberto Del Rio, who now wrestles under the name Alberto El Patrón, could potentially return to WWE television, having rebuilt his career in Mexico. Adding to this, former WWE Spanish-language commentator Hugo Savinovich claimed on his YouTube channel that Alberto had allies in WWE, and talks had even been held regarding a new gimmick for him.
And now seemingly indicating he is set to make a return, to at least AAA under WWE’s control, Rey Mysterio has responded in Spanish to fans chanting Alberto’s name during Triplemanía, that “I’ll bring him. Wait on me.”
For those unaware, Alberto became persona non grata in most North American wrestling promotions after serious allegations were made against him regarding the kidnapping and assault of an ex-girlfriend. Yet, all charges would end up being dropped after a witness, believed to be the alleged victim, failed to appear in court. Therefore, while the former WWE Champion has never been convicted of a crime, the court of public opinion, at least outside of Mexico, did find him guilty and has been vocal about him not re-joining WWE.
