Pink Floyd Posts Reworked Logo That Outrages Some Fans

Fresh out of the “dwindling hope for humanity” file, some fans are upset about Pink Floyd’s new social media logo that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the legendary album, “The Dark Side of the Moon.”

Pink Floyd announced earlier this week that there will be a box set available March 24 to coincide with the celebration of the album. The band updated their Facebook page with a quote that reads “50 years in a heartbeat” with a revamped logo of the album.

The album’s original artwork features a prism with a beam of light entering through the left side and emerging from the other as a rainbow. Designed by Storm Thorgerson, it’s one of the most recognizable album covers in music history. Thorgerson told Rolling Stone that the light and prism were supposed to represent the light show that was long part of Pink Floyd concerts.

“They hadn’t really celebrated their light show,” he said. “That was one thing. The other thing was the triangle. I think the triangle, which is a symbol of thought and ambition, was very much a subject of Roger [Waters]’ lyrics. So the triangle was a very a useful – as we know, obviously – was a very useful icon to deploy and making it into the prism – you know, the prism belonged to the Floyd,” he said.

Some people were angered with the updated logo thinking the rainbow, now located within the number “50,” was a symbol of the LGBTQ community.

“Yeah, cuz I always hear Pink Floyd fans saying ‘I wish Pink Floyd was more gay,'” one person commented on the Facebook picture.

“After seeing this logo I will not buy the reissue,” someone else wrote.

Another mental giant wrote: “are you going woke with rainbows, is there a straight flag, i want equal representation.”

Another said: “What is that pink Floyd what a disgrace.”

Others realizing how ridiculous the reactions were also weighed in.

“Good job Pink. You just lost another fan,” someone said sarcastically. “I have been listening to this album for the past 50 years since I picked it up at my local record store for 50 cents. I just happened to never look at the album cover.”

Another fan saw humor in the whole thing writing: “Oh my God… Pink Floyd is triggering the hell out of the homophobes without intentionally (or maybe they are?) doing it and it is GLORIOUS.”
