It’s a little hard to believe now given the immense success of their song “Kingdom,” but Indiana-based rockers Downstait had previously broken up. What got them back together? Turns out it was Matt Cardona.
A user on X wrote: “Crazy, when you realize that @DownstaitBand once broke up. If I remember correctly, then “Kingdom” was the first new Single they released. Before that @TheMattCardona brought them back together by wanting Downstaits “Radio” version to be his entrance. Thanks Matt and @CodyRhodes.”
Downstait replied with a gif from the TV show “Scrubs” of actor Donald Faison using defibrillator paddles to bring a patient back to life and the caption “.@TheMattCardona had us like:”
Downstait have crafted entrance music for Cody Rhodes, Nic Nemeth/Dolph Ziggler and The Miz, among others. Earlier this year, “Kingdom” passed 40 million streams on Spotify. Rhodes began using the song after his initial departure from WWE during his independent run before signing with AEW. In January of 2021 and for a short time after, Rhodes used a remixed version of the song by Snoop Dogg for his entrance but reverted to the original when fans made their voices heard on Twitter. “Kingdom” wasn’t owned by AEW, so Rhodes was free to take the song with him when he went back to WWE.
