Paul Wight Confirms When He Intends To Retire From The Ring

Paul Wight made his AEW Dynamite return this week and is now scheduled to be part of a big eight-man tag match on the November 15 episode of the show. And now, during an interview with the Battleground Podcast, the 51-year-old former WWE star has discussed his plans to retire. Confirming he will be stepping away from the ring in a couple of years, but right now, he is trying to help out younger talent.

“I probably got a year-and-a-half, two years left before [I retire]. It’s just really about trying to help this younger talent and then moving on to that commentary role, and then it’s up to the younger talent. Right now, I’m still froggy and want to have fun and play a little bit, but I’ve had plenty of matches, I’ve done plenty of tours, I’ve had plenty of rivalries, and right now it’s kind of like helping the product out.”

Wight was a massive acquisition for AEW; however, due to needing knee replacement surgery, he has only competed in four matches since signing with the company in February 2021. Still, he appears ready to make up for lost time, and with a whole new roster to work with, there could be plenty of first-time matches coming up over the next few months.
