The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame remains a point of contention among music fans for its exclusion of several notable bands and artists. The list of legendary acts that should be represented in the institution is still a lengthy one that includes the likes of Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Thin Lizzy, Motley Crue, Pantera, Megadeth, Dio, Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Eddie Money, Bryan Adams, Ted Nugent, Meatloaf, Sammy Hagar, Survivor, Boston, Alice In Chains, Jethro Tull, Huey Lewis & The News, The B52s and The Smashing Pumpkins, among others.

One overlooked artist has made it to the nominations list, but it’s yet to be seen if he will be inducted. If Beatles legend Paul McCartney has anything to say about it, however, Joe Cocker should be receiving the honor soon.

“Joe was a great man and a fine singer whose unique style made for some fantastic performances,” McCartney wrote in an open statement (as reported by Variety). “He sang one of our songs ‘With A Little Help From My Friends,’ a version produced by Denny Cordell which was very imaginative. All the people on the panel will be aware of the great contribution Joe made to the history of Rock and Roll. And whilst he may not have ever lobbied to be in the Hall of Fame, I know he would be extremely happy and grateful to find himself where he deserves to be amongst such illustrious company.”

McCartney previously campaigned for Foreigner’s inclusion, and the band was honored last year. Cocker has been eligible for the honor since 1994 but only this year did he become a nominee.
