Author Michal Azerrad wrote “Come As You Are: The Story Of Nirvana” back in 1993. Recently, Azerrad appeared on the Rolling Stone podcast, and he claimed that Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain was jealous of his bandmate Dave Grohl.

Cobain once called Grohl “the most well-adjusted boy in the whole world.”

Azerrad said: “I think Kurt partly was mocking Dave for being fairly together and normal. He’s a popular, well-adjusted guy — he really is.”

“And I think partly Kurt was making fun of that because he wasn’t a freak, like Kurt. And he also was jealous. I think Kurt was a little bit jealous of Dave because Dave did have his act together.”

Cobain also took a jab at Grohl for his guitar part of “Scentless Apprentice” saying it was “boneheaded.” Azerrad commented on the remark saying: “I thought that was a little condescending, frankly.”

Regardless if there was any inter-band tension, Nirvana bassist Kris Novoselic echoed the sentiments of what countless fans felt about Cobain.

“I think there was just something about Kurt Cobain and his intensity and the way he presented himself, along with the way that he sang and his vocal style. I remember playing people the song ‘Milk It’, and they were like, ‘This is from another world’. It was so intense, and it stands up to any Scandinavian metal band. It would blow a lot of them away. The best way I can describe it is as a truly menacing song.”
