Many fans and wrestlers criticize the WWE Hall of Fame for numerous reasons, and one of the most mentioned ones is the celebrity wing. Some of these individuals arguably deserve recognition due to memorable appearances or helping make the company money, like Mike Tyson, Mr. T, and Donald Trump. Others were quickly forgotten or barely involved, such as Drew Carey.
While the Class of 2020, which is being inducted a year late, initially didn’t have a celebrity announced, that has now been altered, as Star Trek legend William Shatner will be joining the celebrity wing. WWE announced his inclusion earlier today, and it should be noted they specifically referred to him as a member of the Class of 2020. Therefore leaving open the possibility of a Class of 2021 inductee being announced ahead of next Tuesday’s ceremony.
Shanter never had a significant influence on WWE but has made multiple appearances over the years. His first appearance came in 1995, where he monkey flipped Jerry Lawler on Raw before returning the following week in Bret Hart’s corner for a match against Jeff Jarrett, which saw him punch The Roadie. Shatner returned in 2007 to induct his former foe, Jerry Lawler, in the WWE Hall of Fame and then in 2010 to guest host Raw. Since then, he has done narration work for the WWE Network and made a guest appearance on WWE The Bump.
