Mercedes Moné Reveals Why She Wanted To Sign With AEW

After months of speculation, the worst-kept secret in pro wrestling was disclosed on Wednesday night when Mercedes Moné confirmed she was All Elite during Dynamite. And now, following her official debut for Tony Khan’s promotion, the former WWE star has been talking to Sports Illustrated, where she confirmed she wanted to join AEW because of their women’s division.

I want to be here, I need to be here, and it’s because of the women’s division. The women here laid the foundation. They’re the reason I want to be in AEW. We’re going to make so much magic here.”

32-year-old Moné walked out on WWE alongside tag partner Naomi in May 2022, and after initially being suspended, both eventually departed the company. Moné would then go on to join New Japan and wrestle for promotion in the States and Japan. However, she has unfortunately been sidelined since May 2023 after suffering a broken ankle. Although after she appeared in the crowd at All In, it always seemed to be a matter of when, rather than if, she would sign with AEW.
