Mercedes Moné, previously known as Sasha Banks, could have returned to WWE last year but, to the surprise of some fans, chose to become All Elite. Since then, she has been pushed as one of the promotion’s biggest stars and remains undefeated in singles competition. However, while this has delighted her fanbase, some feel she is over-pushed.
Clearly aware of this, during an Instagram Live session, Moné has now requested that fans “Don’t call me Mercedes Hogan, call me Mercedes Omega.” Seemingly, this is because she wants to be known for her excellent in-ring work, unlike Hogan, and likening her current belt collector gimmick to Omega’s similar run during the earlier years of AEW.
33-year-old Moné signed with AEW in February, with Tony Khan promoting the March 13 episode of Dynamite as “Big Bu$iness” to tease her debut, much like how they subtly advertised “The First Dance” around CM Punk. From there, the former WrestleMania main eventer would wrestle her first match for the company at Double or Nothing on May 26, defeating Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship, which she still holds.
