Matt Riddle plays a laid-back goof on Raw, and they often say the best wrestling gimmicks are based on the performer’s real-life self. Now, based on a backstage segment with Riddle on last night’s episode, it appears The King Of Bros isn’t just playing a character. The United States Champion has recently been bugging people while riding his scooter, and this saw him assaulted by Sheamus to begin a program between them leading to WrestleMania.
This week he initially bugged Titus O’Neil, and later on, it was Asuka’s turn as she bumped into him ahead of her contract signing with Rhea Ripley. He’d begin by asking the Raw Women’s Champion if scooters were a big deal in Japan before saying, “I’m sorry, I forgot what I was saying,” and just walked off-screen. Asuka was left stranded and looked bemused at what had just happened, as you can see below.
Some fans have speculated this was a work to play into his character. It does seem too implausible that Riddle would be that unprofessional or think it was a pre-tape and not live. If it was legit, though, Vince McMahon will likely be very unhappy, and Riddle will likely no longer be one of his personal favorites. If that is the case, it doesn’t bode well for his US Championship defense against Sheamus at WrestleMania.
