Many Within WWE Shocked By Roderick Strong’s AEW Debut

Twelve months ago, it was reported that Roderick Strong had asked WWE for his release but had it turned down. Now though, with his contract expired, he is All Elite, having made his debut saving longtime friend Adam Cole from the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, it turns out that his debut caught many in WWE by surprise, as he was still listed on WWE’s roster webpage at the time of his Dynamite appearance. And Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio has confirmed few within the company were aware of his departure.

That was a shock to a lot of people in WWE. I know that there were people who knew his contract was up, but most people didn’t know that.

39-year-old Strong made his name wrestling for ROH and TNA before signing with WWE in 2016. His most significant success came when he joined Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly in The Undisputed Era, winning the NXT North American Championship and NXT Tag Team Champions twice. However, the highly successful faction would disband, and he formed the Diamond Mine stable along with Tyler Rust, Malcolm Bivens, and Hachiman. Since then, though, the group has gone through multiple changes, and he had last competed in August 2022.
