According to Fightful Select, AEW has quietly re-signed Paul Wight to a new contract, keeping the 54-year-old veteran beyond the end of his previous deal, which expired earlier this year. Since arriving in AEW in 2021, the seven-foot legend has pivoted from full-time wrestling to valuable backstage, commentary, and ambassadorial roles. Still, Wight has openly expressed his desire to finish his in-ring career with the promotion and named Kenny Omega and Darby Allin as dream opponents.
“Sources in AEW confirmed to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp that Paul Wight’s contract in the company was coming up earlier this year. However, it is believed that he agreed to a new deal to keep him with the company. We’ve not heard how long the deal is at this point, but he is believed to be firmly under contract.” – Fighful Select
On the fitness front, Wight has undergone a huge transformation in recent years, dropping to around 383 pounds as of May 2026, with his goal being around 350 pounds. After multiple joint replacements, he now prioritizes mobility and steady training to stay active, even as injuries have caught up with him. And while he is no longer chasing titles, it’s known he wants to focus on mentorship and legacy, which keeps the door open for occasional high-profile matches in the future.
