Following his WWE firing in November 2020, it appeared Tony Chimel was done with the wrestling business, and he began working at Trader Joe’s grocery store. However, he somewhat surprisingly started working for AEW and its sister promotion, Ring of Honor, in 2023 in a producer role, allowing him to do what he loves again. Yet, during an interview with All Axxess Entertainment, he has now revealed that he has left the company, calling it a “nice little run.“
Chimel started working for Vince McMahon in 1989, initially as part of the ring crew before becoming Howard Finkel’s backup ring announcer. A decade later, he’d get his big break and become known to wrestling fans worldwide when was named the announcer for SmackDown. Still, his presence on television declined over time, and in later years, he mainly worked in the production office, overseeing the ring crew until he was deemed surplus to requirements.
