L.A. Guns Singer Slams Mötley Crüe

Earlier this week, Mötley Crüe revealed they were in the studio working on new material with their longtime, legendary producer, Bob Rock.

New guitarist John 5 posted a picture of himself laying down tracks as well as pic of famed producer Bob Rock sitting at the mixing board. “Let’s do this @motleycrue #bobrock”, he posted on Instagram.

Rock previously worked with Mötley Crüe on “Dr. Feelgood,” new material for “Decade of Decadence,” the band’s 1994 self-titled effort, new material for their 1998 “Greatest Hits” record, new material for “Red, White & Crüe,” as well as tunes for the Netflix biopic, “The Dirt.”

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee shared the same photos as well as one that showed himself, John 5 and Nikki Sixx in the “big studio.” He wrote: “Hit that mother f*cking record button Mr. Rock!!! Go!”

One person who likely won’t be buying the new album is L.A. Guns singer Phil Lewis.

In a new conversation from Rock Interview Series, Lewis blasted Mötley Crüe for their dismissal of original guitarist Mick Mars, and he went on to say that the band is “f*cking atrocious.”

“It’s incorrigible, isn’t it? It really is. It’s such a swindle,” Lewis said of reports that Mötley Crüe plays to pre-recorded tracks in their live show.

“But it’s probably a lot better. I mean, they’d probably sound like utter sh*t if they were live, with the big stadium and the big lights and Vince (Neil) singing in the way that we’ve come to know and love. They really are a f*cking atrocious band; they always have been. And the only good player, the only good one in the band, has been very unceremoniously dismissed.”

Lewis continued: “I never liked them. I never did. I never bought one of their records. I loathed ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’; I hated all of it. Occasionally I caught the attention of Nikki, and he doesn’t like me. I’m a sad little pumpkin as to what he thinks about me. I just find him to be a big fraud.”

“It’s a punishment of luxury — somebody that became a millionaire at such an early age that they never really developed social skills,” Lewis added of Mötley Crüe’s early success. “It’s like taking a bird out of a nest when it’s not ready to fly; it won’t develop. And I don’t think, really, that any of them… The three of them aren’t very well socially developed. They’re not very good. And Mick’s a different category entirely because he was so much older before success.”

Lewis went on to compare Mötley Crüe to Milli Vanilli, a hip-hop duo that infamously crashed and burned when it was revealed they had been lip-syncing for their entire run of success.

“Success can be a punishment quite often,” Lewis said. “And in their case it must just be so painful right now having been idolized for so long and now to called out as frauds, essentially as instrument-holding Milli Vanilli, as a disgrace. They’ve gotta be hurting real bad.”

Lewis also isn’t high on John 5.

“They really f*cked up when they went with John 5 and not (L.A. Guns guitarist) Tracii Guns,” Lewis said. “And I’m glad they did, obviously. John 5 is not the right f*cking fit at all. And Tracii would just be so perfect. He’s, like, Hollywood; he’s a brat like them. He’s just like the next generation down, and it would have been such an incredibly good fit. But Tracii’s not trendy.”

“It’s gotta be f*cking Rob Zombie’s guy or it’s gotta be Lenny Kravitz’s wife or ex-girlfriend. It’s gotta be trendy. It’s gotta be somebody incredibly important. It gives them a sense of importance. And, as I said, I’m glad they f*cked up and they didn’t hire Tracii. They should have got Tracii.”

Tracii Guns previously played with Sixx in a band called Brides of Destruction.
