Kurt Angle destroyed his body to entertain fans, and at one time had a serious painkiller addiction. Thankfully, he has since overcome this, but his quality of life is far from good. And now, while appearing on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, he has shared his list of physical ailments and heartbreakingly acknowledged, “There’s nothing I can do,” having run out of treatment options.
56-year-old Angle retired from the ring at WrestleMania 35, having put over Baron Corbin in his final match, although it’s known that his choice of opponent was actually John Cena. According to Angle, Vince McMahon told him he could have his last match be against Cena at the following year’s WrestleMania, but he’d need to continue wrestling in between.
Still, the Olympic gold medalist was honest with himself and admitted he didn’t have another year in him, even if he was only a part-timer. And while it’s understood that AEW attempted to get Angle to work a handful of matches for them in the promotion’s early days, Angle sensibly turned down the big-money offers, with his wife adamant that he shouldn’t wrestle again.
