Jonathan Gresham Reportedly “Cussed Out” Tony Khan While Requesting AEW Release

Saturday night saw Tony Khan hold his second Ring of Honor event, which featured ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham dropping the title to former WWE star Claudio Castagnoli. There had been speculation going into the match that Gresham was unhappy dropping the title, but that wasn’t verified. Although the fact Gresham didn’t come out to the match wearing his typical gear did somewhat add credence to these claims, with it appearing he wasn’t comfortable with what was about to happen.

Now, Fightful Select has reported that Gresham, who deactivated his Twitter account after the defeat, actually requested his release BEFORE the bout due to feeling disrespected. Apparently, Gresham felt disgruntled due to not speaking much to Khan leading up to the event and being disappointed with the amount of time the match was allocated. Additionally, it was noted that he “cussed out” Khan during their conversation.

The 34-year-old, who was trained by former WWE and WCW wrestler Curtis Hughes had spent over a decade on the indies before signing with ROH under their former owners in 2017. And since they established himself as one of the top competitors on the brand, holding the company World Championship, Pure Championship, and World Tag Team Championship alongside Jay Lethal. He has also wrestled four times for AEW, with Khan looking to keep the ROH brand alive.
