Last summer Ric Flair teamed with son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to take on Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal in what was billed as his final match. And while the show was successful in drawing a huge gate, and Flair got paid $300,000 for his troubles, many fans felt let down by Flair’s performances. Now though, Jarrett has commented about this on his podcast and claims many fans’ expectations were unrealistic.
The expectations going into that match were so wide and diverse. You have a 35-year-plus career of mine, and Ric is a 45, and then Jay and Andrade, no disrespect, but different ones, but the expectations going into that, some people maybe delusionally thought they were going to see Flair do the upside down flip or all of his trademark stuff. Jeff Jarrett
74-year-old Flair himself has criticised the match and acknowledges the fact he passed out twice from dehydration took away from the bout. Nevertheless, most fans did go in with lowered expectations, given Flair’s age and health conditions, and for many, they just hoped Flair would survive the contest.
