Jeff Jarrett Returns To WWE In Key Position

Ten months ago, Jeff Jarrett, who’d been working as a producer, was quietly let go by WWE due to budget cuts. Since then, he has focused on his podcast and his ownership role in Minor League Baseball team, The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. Now though, PWInsider has reported that the third-generation wrestler has not only returned to the company, but he will be in an executive position, with it described as Jarrett “taking over live events.“Precise details weren’t provided, but it is understood Jarrett will be commencing his duties next week.

For those who were following the business in the late 90s and early 2000s, it seems remarkable Jarrett is now in the position. This is because WWE mistakenly allowed his contract to expire while he was still Intercontinental Champion. So before joining WCW, Jarrett would demand that all the money owed by WWE be paid to him before he’d wrestle and put over Chyna on pay-per-view in his final match. Ultimately this would backfire on him as while he would achieve success in WCW, once WWE purchased the company, he was persona-non-grata. However, despite this, and him being a key player when TNA was trying to compete with WWE, he would eventually be welcomed back after attending rehab and subsequently inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Before the revelation of this role, it had been known that 54-year-old Jarrett still considered himself an active wrestler, with his last match taking place earlier this year in GCW against Effy. Nevertheless, the match drew criticism as Jarrett went over the homegrown star, although defenders of the decision would say it would have been done to set up a rematch. Yet, if that was the long-term plan, Jarrett’s new WWE role and ability to take outside bookings could now prevent that.
