Four years ago, it was reported that Chris Hemsworth, best known as Thor in the Marvel movies, was going to portray Hulk Hogan in a biopic. Additionally, it would be directed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips and written by Scott Silver, who wrote 8 Mile and Joker. However, while bits and pieces have been shared about the project since then, things have recently gone quiet.
And now, while being interviewed by Chris Van Vliet, Hogan has confirmed the film is currently off, noting that Netflix missed their deadline. He would, though, add his life rights are elsewhere at present, and he hopes Hemsworth and Phillips still want to be involved.
“It was a situation where, business-wise, Netflix kind of missed the date, you know, as far as a business situation, and so I had the choice at that time to switch gears. Scott Silver wrote the script. You know, he wrote The Joker and a bunch of different movies, and of course, Todd Phillips has done The Joker, Wolf of Wall Street, and you know, whatever, all the crazy stuff that he did. But yeah, the script came back. It was amazing. I mean, because my favorite movies are Scarface, The Godfather, and True Romance.
It was there. It was there, and I just thought, whoa, but all of a sudden, there was a business glitch, you know, and then they tried to fix it a few days later, and I’d already decided to move on. So, my life rights and stuff are somewhere else now, and there are a lot of things that are getting ready to happen. Hopefully, Todd Phillips and Chris Hemsworth will still want to play, but there’s still a huge opportunity there.”
Hulk HoganGiven who was involved, it certainly seems the biopic could have been something outstanding; therefore, it’s disappointing to hear it isn’t currently progressing. Still, there is a fascinating story to tell regarding the life of Hogan, so hopefully, it is just a matter of time before there is a new announcement confirming a new movie.
