As soon as TNA partnered with WWE, fans began speculating about AJ Styles returning to the company where he found fame. And now, after TNA’s head honcho teased something “phenomenal” at Slammiversary, the former WWE Champion has all but been confirmed as appearing on the pay-per-view after his ring jacket was shown during this week’s episode of Impact.
48-year-old Styles was part of TNA for 12 years and is considered by many to be their greatest homegrown star ever. Yet, due to the promotion struggling financially in 2014, he would depart after being asked to take a 60% pay cut. Therefore, many thought this could be the end of his career in mainstream American wrestling. Still, following a very successful run in New Japan, he would go on to join WWE, taking his career to the next level and establishing him as one of the best wrestlers of his generation.
