How Close CM Punk Came To Joining Impact Wrestling Reported

When it appeared WWE had no interest in rehiring CM Punk, there was speculation he could be headed to Impact Wrestling to resume his wrestling career after he was spotted backstage attending their post-Bound for Glory television tapings. And now it has been reported by PWInsiderElite.com that the former AEW star was made a “major money offer” to become a full-time performer for them, with those in the promotion believing at one point that they were very close to getting him to sign before he returned to WWE.

45-year-old Punk previously worked for Impact Wrestling between 2002 and 2004, when it was known as NWA-TNA. During this time, he featured as part of Raven’s stable, The Gathering, and predominantly wrestled alongside Julio Dinero as part of a tag team. However, he would ultimately quit the promotion in 2004 to focus on Ring of Honor after NWA-TNA ended their talent-sharing arrangement with the promotion due to then-ROH owner Rob Feinstein being caught in an internet sting operation.
