A pro wrestler not sticking to their retirement commitment is nothing new, with it seemingly being more likely that a performer will return to the ring than stay away. And now, in another example of this, Jushin Thunder Liger has wrestled his first match since retiring at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in 2020 by answering Joey Janela’s open challenge at Saturday night’s Wrestlecade Supershow. According to PWInsider.com, the match lasted only two minutes, although Sean Ross Sapp says it was more like four.
61-year-old Liger, born Keiichi Yamada, debuted in New Japan in 1984 and adopted his iconic masked gimmick in 1989. As a junior heavyweight pioneer, he captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship a record 11 times, including a 628-day reign, and six IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles. Additionally, he worked for WCW on a d off throughout the 90s, winning their Light Heavyweight Championship and notably wrestling the first match ever on Nitro.
