While most people will remember Kevin Greene as a Pro Football Hall of Famer who played in the NFL for 15 years, wrestling fans will remember him for his matches in WCW during the 90s. Unfortunately, news broke earlier today that the father of two has passed away aged 58. As of writing, no cause of death has been released.
His NFL career saw him play for the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, and San Francisco 49ers, and he would be voted as part of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. Once he retired, he’d work as an outside linebacker coach for the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets. During his time playing football, he also got involved in pro wrestling and would wrestle several times for WCW between 1996 and 1998 due to being a huge fan of the sport.
His favorite wrestler was Ric Flair, and he got to work with him twice. The first time came during his debut match when he teamed with Steve McMichael against Flair and Arn Anderson. Greene would end up pinned by Flair after McMichael turned on him to join the Four Horsemen. He ended up leaving WCW when NFL teams began clamping down on their players wrestling. However, it’s believed he did consider taking up wrestling full-time, and Eric Bischoff has stated he would have signed him had he decided to quit the NFL.
