Former “Jackass” star Bam Margera recently went through a well-publicized battle with alcohol and drugs. He was in-and-out of numerous rehabs, and Us Weekly confirmed that this past summer he was placed on a 5150 hold when he was found acting erratically in public.

Margera championed numerous hard rock, metal and punk bands via both “Jackass” and his “Viva La Bam” show, and much of the music used for both programs got a significant boost in notoriety. It also fit the stunt-style shows perfectly.

Margera appears to have turned a corner in his battle to say sober, as he’s stayed off drugs and booze for more than 130 days and counting. He also announced to Us Weekly that he’s recently gotten engaged to model Dannii Marie.

Margera revealed that he planned to OD after checking into the Sunset Marquis hotel.

“I didn’t plan on checking out,” he said. “I bought a bunch of drugs and I didn’t want to wake up. I had so many lawsuits and lawyers taking my money, and not being on Jackass and having a lawsuit with them. Anytime I got a phone call, it was just an issue.”

Margera ended up praying for some kind of sign and help.

“I was like, ‘If I wake up from this amount of drugs and alcohol that I bought, then please show me the best eye candy in the world — and I need a tan pit bull,’” he shared.

“The next morning I woke up at the Sunset Marqui. I’m like, ‘Sh*t, I’m alive,’” he continued. “I went by the pool and overheard Dannii talking about how she’s 44, Sicilian and Irish. When I met her, she said, ‘I have to go home and walk my dog’ — a tan pit bull. I was like, ‘Thank you, God,’”

Margera went on to propose to Marie on Oct. 27.

“I always woke up not knowing what to do with the day … I would just look across the street, see an Irish pub and be like, ‘That looks like fun,’” Margera said. “Now I wake up, I walk the dogs, I stretch, I go to the gym, I go skateboarding. Everything’s a structured fun schedule.”

“And we do it together,” he said of his fiancée. “It’s just a perfect thing.”
