Recently news broke that WWE had an interest in Kenny Omega when his contract expires later this year, which broke the hearts of many AEW fans. Nevertheless, one of the benefits of working with AEW over WWE is you get to perform for other promotions, and now during an interview with Haus of Wrestling, AAA’s Konnan has revealed that based on a conversation he had with Omega about coming in for future shows he assumes he has re-signed.
Originally we were going to bring in Omega, but he was still negotiating with AEW, and he wasn’t sure if he was going to stay or not, so, we couldn’t commit, and he didn’t want to come here until he signed. So, that was out the window, boom.
I’m assuming [Omega has re-signed with AEW], I never really asked him, but there are plans for him in the future, so I’m thinking he already signed.
KonnanIt should be noted that Omega jumping to WWE was never a foregone conclusion, as Tony Khan was always unlikely to let Omega go without a fight. And while Cody Rhodes has proven there can be great success for AEW alum, Rhodes was still a homegrown WWE talent, while Omega would likely be seen as an outsider and thus miss out on a main event push.
