First Two Entrants Announced For Men’s Royal Rumble Match

Last night WWE brought back WWE Backstage on FS1 for a Royal Rumble special. One of the show’s draws was the announcement of who had drawn #1 and #2 in the men’s Royal Rumble match. #1 was confirmed to be Randy Orton, and by a remarkable coincidence, #2 is Edge, who has been out injured for the past seven months following a match against The Apex Predator.

Both numbers have twice been the winning entrant’s number, with #1 in 1995 and 2004 and #2 in 1999, 2006. If Orton were to last until the end, he would likely become second behind Chris Jericho for the longest cumulative time spent in Royal Rumble matches. At present, he has remained for a total of 3:33. If Edge makes it until the end, he will potentially go sixth overall, overtaking Chris Benoit, Roman Reigns, Steve Austin, CM Punk, John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and Glenn Jacobs.

Additionally, on WWE Backstage, a match between Natalya and Tamina aired from Friday’s SmackDown taping with the right to enter #30 in the women’s Royal Rumble match at stake. Natalya won the match via a rollup, and in kayfabe, she now the most significant advantage of winning.
