Last month, former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee guested on Talk Is Jericho. Lee was with “The Prince of Darkness” from 1982-1987 playing and writing on “Bark at the Moon” and “The Ultimate Sin.”
Lee also had the opportunity to connect with his former boss at his “Back To The Beginning” concert farewell this past summer. Lee shared that Ozzy’s wife Sharon made sure that the two reconnected at the event. “Sharon came up to me during the dinner the night of the show,” Lee recalled. “She came up to me and found me and gave me a couple passes to get into a special area. And she said, ‘After the show, Ozzy’s gonna be in this area, and he really wants to talk to you again.’ I said, ‘OK.’ And she said, ‘No, try to make it.’ And she whispered in my ear, ‘He doesn’t have long,’ That was kind of … not eerie, but’ … Oh s*it, this is serious.”
Lee also told Chris Jericho that though iconic guitarist Randy Rhoads gets most of the credit for the music on Ozzy’s first two albums, bassist Bob Daisley played much more of a role than most people know. “I can listen to the first two records now, ‘Blizzard of Ozz’, and ‘Diary of a Madman’, and I can hear, ‘That’s Daisley there,’” Lee explained. “I mean, I know everybody — and I’m not trying to bring Randy down — everybody thinks Randy wrote all the music, Daisley just wrote lyrics. No. Daisley had a huge part to do with the music.”
The guitarist continued: “I can hear it when I listen to those, ‘Oh, he wrote that part. Oh, he made sure that part was in there.’ And that’s taking nothing away from Randy, from Randy’s fans. I love Randy. He’s an awesome guitar player, but Daisley, I think, doesn’t get as much credit for the music as he deserves.”
