Eric Bischoff is a polarizing character within pro wrestling. Some people see him as partially responsible for the fall of WCW. In contrast, others consider him a visionary that reinvigorated the industry in the 90s. Regardless it is impossible to deny he has had a significant impact, and today WWE announced him as the second inductee into the Class of 2021 WWE Hall of Fame. He joins Molly Holly, who was announced last week. The ceremony for this year’s inductees and the delayed Class of 2020 will air on Peacock in the US and on the WWE Network throughout the rest of the world on April 6, 2021.
Bischoff was fired by WWE in October 2019 from his role of Executive Director of the Friday Night Smackdown, having been the scapegoat for Smackdown losing 25% of its audience between weeks 1 and 2 of its move to FOX. Bischoff had only held the position since June 2019 and had recently relocated to Connecticut to be closer to WWE’s headquarters. When he initially took the role, Bischoff declared it a bigger opportunity than when he was president of WCW on his podcast. Since then, he has made a couple of appearances for WWE’s rival AEW, including recently appearing on the March 3, 2021, episode of Dynamite as part of an Inner Circle press conference.
