Dustin Rhodes Says He’ll Be “Pissed” If The Rock Headlines WrestleMania 40

Six months ago, it looked like WrestleMania 40 would be headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes in a highly anticipated rematch from last year’s show. However, with The Rock having since returned to WWE television, it now looks like he is being positioned to be Reigns’ opponent. And while this will undoubtedly be a huge match, one person who isn’t happy at the idea is Cody’s older brother Dustin Rhodes, who told Sports Illustrated he’ll be “pissed” if The Rock takes the spot, as it’s “Cody’s moment.

“I hope Cody’s in the main event spot against Roman. Or it’s going to be The Rock. If it is The Rock, I’m pissed–this is Cody’s time. He is becoming the face of the company, and it’s paying off. But I get it. If it is The Rock, it’s still good business. I understand that there are a lot of people who love seeing The Rock. But I still think it’s Cody’s moment.”

Cody Rhodes departed WWE back in 2016 due to being frustrated with his creative, specifically being forced to perform as Stardust. Subsequently, he worked for ROH, TNA, and New Japan before joining AEW as both a talent and Executive Vice President. While in AEW, he would go on to demonstrate to the world he was a genuine main event performer and, therefore, made himself desirable to WWE, who re-signed him in 2022 to be one of the faces of the company. Still, so far, he has yet to hold one of the promotions world championships, and with CM Punk having also recently returned, some fans are now wondering if he ever will.
